Frank Arthur Townsend, the oldest son of James and Mina Townsend, was born in Corning on June 11, 1895 and passed away on Tuesday evening, April 20, 1954, at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, at the age of 58 years, 10 months, and 9 days.
Mr. Townsend had been in poor health for the past three years. His condition becoming more serious. He was taken to the Veterans hospital on April 11.
On August 16, 1919, he ws united in marriage to Helen Ashenfelter. To this union one child, Frances, was born. She preceded her father in death passing away in 1950.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his widow, father and mother, two sisters, Mrs. Grace Schaub of Corning and Mrs. Dorothy Corey of Shenandoah, one brother, Earl Townsend of Corning, one grandson, Wayne Leusing and a son-in-law, Garrett Leusing, and a host of relatives and friends.
When he was a small boy, he was baptized and received into the Christian church. Since then he has held to his faith in the Lord. He was a Legionnaire and a Veteran of Foreign Wars. In World War I he was with the 88th Division and was overseas for 11 months.
Funeral services were held April 23 at 2 p.m. from the Methodist Church in Corning with Rev. Frank Jacobs conducting the services. Music was by John Reigel and Esther Roland with Mrs. Kathleen Cook, pianist. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pall bearers were Ralph Readhead, Ralph Lyman, Tut Anderson, Clarence Bender, Artie Keefe, and Ralph Currie.
Our Post 117 of the American Legion of Corning was in charge of the graveside services.
