Jessie Florence Dhone, the daughter of Herbert Jones Perks and Barbara Ellen (Dick) Perks, was born December 15, 1884 in Carbon, Iowa and passed away July 8, 1983 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Corning, Iowa, where she had been a resident for the past several years. She was 98 years, 6 months, and 23 days old.
On February 14, 1910, she was united in marriage to Albert L. Dhone in Carbon, Iowa with the Rev. A. Y. Cupp officiating. Six children were born to this union.
Jessie spend her childhood and lived her entire life in the Carbon vicinity except for four years spent on a homestead in Montana.
She became a member of the Carbon Methodist Church at an early age and was an active member throughout her life.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Albert, two sons, Darl and Donnie Dhone; a brother, Walter Perks and six sisters, Mable Devine, Maude Johnson, Hazel Strait, Violet Peterson, Wilma Bennington, and Olive Richey.
She is survived by her children, Hollis Dhone and wife Quilla of Carbon, Audrey Moore of Corning, Stanley Dhone and wife Thelma of Troutdale, Oregon, and Vergie Routh and husband Warren of Boone; a daughter-in-law Dolores Dhone of Carbon; two sisters, Iva Strait and Emma Olson of Carbon; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Jessie was a unique person. She was interested in the activities of her family and friends to the end of her life. She was a devoted and faithful wife, a loving and understanding mother, a helpful neighbor, and a good friend. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Funeral services were held at the Guthier Funeral Home in Corning July 10, at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Jack Singleton officiating. Interment was in Quincy Cemetery, north of Corning.
Music was furnished by Erma Fuller, organist and Lee West, vocalist. Casket bearers were Ralph Olson, Steve Richey, Wayne Strait, Mark Sorensen, Raymond Strait, and Mitchell Sorensen.
