Anna Laura Friman, daughter of Andrew and Rachel Brownlee Friman, was born in Adams County, Iowa, on September 3, 1883 and passed away on December 1st, 1947. She was 64 years of age at the time of her death.
On February 10th, 1899, she was united in marriage with Clarence E Bontrager at Atchison, Kansas and to this union two children were born, Mrs. Darwin Dunn and Roland Bontrager, both of Villisca. There was also an adopted daughter, Henrietta Hutchinson of Des Moines, who was taken into the home in her infancy. Except for two years, Mrs. Bontrager spent her entire life in Adams and Montgomery Counties and was a resident of Villisca for 23 years. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Villisca; Order of the Eastern Star, and American Legion Auxiliary.
Besides her husband and children, she leaves three granddaughters, Barbara Ruth and Judy Dale Bontrager, and Candace Kay Dunn; three sisters, Mrs. Jennie Cartwright of Wolback, Nebraska, Mrs. W. W. Billingsley of Pleasantown, Iowa and Mrs. Charlie Soward of LaPlata, Missouri; two brothers, William of Wagner, Oklahoma, and Charles Friman of Oakland California. She was preceded in death her father and mother, also two sisters, Elizabeth and Deliah Friman; and two brothers, John and Elmer Friman.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Sutphen Funeral Home in Villisca and were in charge of Rev. E. M. Bueller of Boone, Iowa, assisted by Rev. L. H. Athey of Villisca. The singing was by Mrs. H. J. Christie and Cecil Weaver, accompanied by Mrs. Frances Wheeler. In charge of flowers were Mrs. Helen Still and Mrs. Eunice English. The pall bearers were Clyde Vaughn, Chas Wood, Thad Cooney, Harold Narigon, Pete Truman, and Robert Dunn. Interment was in the Nodaway Cemetery.
