The many friends in this community were grieved to learn of the death of Andrew Friman, a pioneer citizen of this part of Iowa, who died at his home in Villisca, December 31, 1931. The funeral services were held from the Nodaway M. E. Church at 2:00 o’clock, Saturday afternoon, January 2, the services being in charge of Rev. Keast of Villisca, assisted by Rev. Emry of Nodaway. Burial was made in the Nodaway Cemetery.
Anrew Friman was born near Covington, Kentucky, January 22, 1842, and passed away at his home in Villisca, Iowa, December 31, 1931, at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 9 days. HIs childhood was spent in Kentucky and Indiana. In early manhood he moved to Shelby County, Illinois and in January 1863 was united in marriage to Rachel Brownlee, who proceded him in death March 21, 1902. Ten children were born to this union, two dying in infancy. Those surviving are William of Wagner, Oklahoma, Mrs. Jennie Cartwright, of Wolbach, Nebraska, John of Lawton, Oklahoma; Mrs. Alice Billingsley, of Pleasantville, Iowa; Mrs. Viola Soward of Kirksville, Missouri; Mrs. Anna Bontrager and Elizabeth Friman of Villisca, and Charles of Seneca, South Dakota. also 37 grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren. The daughters were all at his bedside during his last hours.
About 50 years ago, he with his family, came to Adams County, Iowa, and since that time lived in and near Nodaway, until the last few years when he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. C E. Bontrager, of Villisca. About 40 years ago he united with the North Class M. E. Church in Adams County, Iowa. Although terribly afflicted for the past 15 years, he had borne all with an uncomplaining patience and was always kind and loving to his family.
