Charles Phillips, son of Goerge Albert and Sarah Phillips, was born January 22, 1876 in LaSalle County, Illinois and passed away on December 27, 1954 at his house north of Corning, Iowa at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 4 days. His death was due to a heart ailment. He had been ailing about six years.
He came to Adams county at the age of 10 years and spent the remainder of his life on a farm. He was married to Stella Dunn on April 10, 1912 in Corning and to this union six children were born. They are George and Mrs. Lois Gerber of Prescott; Mrs. Ruby Konecne, Mrs. Elda Goodvin, and Vernon, all of Corning, and an infant son Harvey Raymond, who passed away in March 1918. Besides the infant son, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, William, and an infant sister.
Besides his children, he is survived by his faithful and loving wife, 10 grandchildren, 2 daughters-in-law, 3 sons-in-law, one brother, Fred, and one niece and two nephews.
Mr. Phillips was a kind and loyal father and neighbor. he was always happy to have his family at home and enjoyed his grandchildren very much. He always believed and followed the Golden Rule and was always ready to help a friend or neighbor in time of need.
Funeral services were conducted at the Roland Funeral Home in Corning at 2 o’clock on December 29, by Rev. Wilton Sinning. Burial was made in the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Corning.
