Leota M. Phillips, oldest child of Thomas and Maude Street Knapp, was born July 5, 1907 near Stotesbury, Missouri. She passed away at the age of 70 years at her home in Prescott, Iowa, February 12, 1978.
On February 25, 1934, she was united in marriage to Chleo C. Phillips at Metz, Missouri. To this union three children were born, Lulabell Ann, Thomas George, and Helen Kay.
Leona and her husband were engaged in farming, residing near Stotesbury, Mssouri, until 1946 when they moved to the Prescott community, in December 1973, they moved into their home in Prescott.
Leona was a devoted wife and mother. Her special joy was her grandchildren. She was a good friend to all those who know her and she was always concerned about the needs of others. She was a member of the Prescott United Church.
She is survived by her husband, Chleo, a son, Tom and his wife Rosalie of Corning, a daughter, Helen Kay Zimmerman and her husband Dennis of Anita; three grandchildren, Teresa and Linda Phillips and Bryan Zimmerman; two brothers Edgar Knapp and Tade Knapp of Prescott; four sisters, Mrs. Homer (Nadine) Biddie, Mrs. Art (Eileen) Lewis, Mrs. Carl (Pearl) Sarnecki; all of West Des Moines; and Mrs. Harold (Opal) Mackmann of Fontanelle, several nieces and nephews, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Leona was preceded in death by a daughter; Lulabell Ann, one brother, Marvin Knapp, and two sisters, Mrs. Fred (Thelma) Lindauer, and Mrs. J. D. (Mabel) Roberts.
Funeral services were held February 15, at 1:30 p.m. at the Prescott United Church, with Rev. Larry Davidson officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery.
Music was furnished by Clarice Outhier, organist. flower bearers were Mr. and Mrs. Dive McMorran and Clotene Zimmerman. Pall bearers were Ronald Kester, Floyd Eberle, Armond Travis, Eldon Jenkins, Ed Reed, and Kenny Foster.
