Lydia Walter Hargan

Lydia Hargan, daughter of George Franklin and Clara Belle Harvey Walter, was born Jan. 21, 1895, southwest of Brooks. Iowa, and entered into rest Jan. 30, 1987, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Corning, at the age of 92 years and 9 days.
She was united in marriage Feb. 21, 1915, with Mervin Roswell Hargan at Brooks, Iowa. Five children were born to this union. They farmed in Adams and Taylor counties until ill health forced them to retire in 1967 when they moved to Prescott.
Mrs. Hargan was a member of the United Methodist Church of Prescott and found great comfort in her Bible and her church. She was a charter member of the Prescott Quilters.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Mervin; one daughter, Clara Jane; two brothers, Ivan who died in infancy and Hillman Walter; and a son-in-law, William Young.
Survivors include three daughters, Goldie Young of Creston, Florence Knapp and husband Edgar of Prescott and Arlene Jones and husband Art of Tempe, Ariz., her son,John Hargan and wife Helen of Shenandoah; a brother, James Walter and wife Lucille of Villisca; two sisters-in-law, Jessie Walter of Shenandoah and Alice Pullen of Creston; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
Services were held at the Prescott United Church in Prescott Feb. 2 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Jeanne Groom and Rev. Elmer West officiating. Interment was in Methodist Grove Cemetery, Brooks.
