Ralph Edward Neill, son of John Edward and Ada Hollingsworth Neill, was born May 20, 1892 in Adams County, Iowa and passed away December 16, 1977 at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa at the age of 86 years, 7 months, and 6 days. He grew up and attended the Hunter School in Adams County as a child.
He was united in marriage to Edna Fern Cline, November 15, 1914 at Mt. Etna, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Leola and Loren. Most of their marriage life was spent farming in Adams and Taylor Counties. In 1943 they moved to Prescott where they lived on an acreage the rest of their lives. Fishing and gardening were Ralph's favorite hobbies and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone.
Surviving are his daughter, Leola Birt and her husband Erwin of Creston; his son Loren Neill and his wife Joy of Scottsdale, Arizona; one sister, Zepha Case of Creston, and two brothers, John L. Neill and his wife Mary of Red Oak, and O. Hollis Neill and his wife Mildred of Milwaukee, Oregon. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Melvin Birt and wife Judy of Creston, Robert Birt and wife Connie of Essex; Patricia Pashek and husband Kenneth of Van Meter, Iowa; Daniel Neill and Sue of Kanawa, Hawaii; Deborah Neill of Greeley, Colorado; Larry Beck and wife Wendee of Boise, Idaho, and Douglas Beck of Scottsdale, Arizona. In addition, he is survived by 14 great-grandchildren as well as by many other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Fern, who passed away on November 17, 1961; a sister, Blanche Winkler; a granddaughter, Dandra Lynn Neill; and a great granddaughter, Dandra Lynn Birt.
Funeral services were held at the Prescott United Church December 19, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Larry Davidson officiating. Interment was in Quincy Cemetery.
Music was provided by Clarice Outhier, organist, and Helen Richie, Vocalist. Weldon and Jean Cline were flower bearers. Pall bearers were Melvin Birt, Robert Birt, Kenneth Pashek, Paul Winkler, Russell Ramsey, and Bob Dunn.
