William Gourd Sr., died Sunday from injuries received in a runaway Saturday. The funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 o'clock at the home of his son, Richard Gourd. Rev. W. F. Wallace had charge of the services and interment was made in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
William Gourd was born in England in the County of Cornwall, on December 8, 1831. He was 81 years, 5 months, and 22 days old at the time of his death. Mr. Gourd was married to Mary Ann Sampson June 26, 1848. He came to America in 1864, with his family, locating in Pennsylvania, later moving to New Jersey and thence to Illinois. He came to Corning in 1872, and since that time has made his home in this community. He leaves five children to mourn him, four sons and one daughter. They are Joseph of England, Richard, on the home place, Matthew of Mexico, William of Colorado, and Mrs. Elizabeth Haviland of Corning.
The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved relatives in their hour of sorrow.
