Andrew Jackson Linn, of Nodaway died at his home Wednesday morning, August 28, 1912, after an illness of one week's duration, from bowel trouble. Mr. Linn was aged 84 years, 2 months, and 20 days. He was born near Cannsburg, Pennsylvania, June 8, 1828 and was educated in the Washington-Jefferson College in Canonsburg. Mr. Linn was married in Chesterville, Ohio on March 24, 1853, to Miss Harriet Merrin. After spending about a year in Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Linn went to Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, where they made their home for some time and it was there their nine sons were born, In 1866 Mr. Linn and his family left Pennsylvania and located in Morris, Illinois. In 1874 the family came to Iowa, locating in Adams County, on a farm near Nodaway, where they remained until 1883, when they removed to Nodaway, which was the home of Mr, Linn, with the exception of a part of a year spent in California, until he departed this life. Mr. Linn was justice of the peace in Nodaway since 1882 and served two or three terms a mayor. He had a keen sense of honor and justice and during his long services in Nodaway he tried many evil and criminal cases and as far as known not one of his decisions was ever reversed. Five of the sons borneo Mr, and Mrs,Linn preceded their father in death. They are: Storable, Corydon Melvin, Richard N. William T., and Eddie. Besides his aged wife, Mr. Linn leaves four sons, A. S. Linn of Hayes, South Dakota; S. D. of Corning, F. M. of Nodaway, and A. J., Jr. of LaClede, Missouri, all of whom were present at the funeral. He also leaves eighteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren, besides two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Boyles and Mrs Maria Munnell, of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. Mr. Linn was a member of the Presbyterian Church and lived an exemplary life which was an inspiration to others. He was one of the grand old men of the county and had scores of friends.
Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church at Nodaway, Thursday, August 29th at 2:30 in the afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. K. Driver of Red Oak, assisted by Rev. H. N. Posten of Nodaway. The pall bearers were D. H. Meyerhof, E. D. Orme, H. M. Simpson, F. O. Parcher, Leon Rider, and Andrew Bryson, sons of neighbors of Mr. Linn. Interment was made in Nodaway Cemetery. A S. Merrin from Kirksville, Missouri, a brother of Mrs. Linn and sister-in-law Mrs. John Worthington of Cumberland, attended the funeral.
