Mrs. J. S. Herring, formerly Miss Mary J Warner, died at the home of her son, D. W. Herring, south of Corning, Friday, January 23, 1914, of pneumonia, being nearby 77 years of age at the time of her death. Funeral services were held at the Fairview Christian church Sunday, January 25, 1914, at 11 o'clock a. m., conducted by the pastor, Rev. Mr. Hagany of Des Moines, assisted by Rev. Mr. Rhodes, pastor of the Oak Hill Christian church. Burial was made in Prairie Rose cemetery beside loved ones who had gone on before Mary
J. Warner was born in Dolphin county, Pennsylvania, February 27, 1837. She moved to Monmouth, Warren county, Illinois, In 1851. In 1861 she was married to J. S. Herring and. they located in Knox county, Illinois, in 1863, where they remained until the spring of 1875, when they came to Iowa, locating in Taylor county. They moved to Corning twenty years ago. Mr. Herring died in 1896 at their home in Corning. Mrs. Herring was the mother of seven children They are Frank, who died In infancy; three daughters who died in young womanhood; Lillie in 1893, Maude in 1896, and Fannie in 1907; and three who survive their parents, D. W. Herring, of Holt township, Taylor county Mrs. A. W. Morris, of Des Moines, and A. C. Herring, of Corning. Mrs. Herring also leaves one half sister, Mrs, M. Derenzy, of Monmouth, III.; and three half brothers, D. P., S. F. and J. S. Kerns, of this vicinity; besides a number of grand children and great grand children. Mrs. Herring was a charter member of the Fairview Christian church, which was organized in Taylor county in 1889, and she remained a loyal member until the time of her death.
