Mathew Allen Thompson, died at th home of his daughter, Rosa Van Alst in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, July 22, 1903, aged 63 years. The remains were brought to Brooks. The funeral services were conducted from the M. E. Church by Rev. Mr. Rowley, Saturday and interment made in Baldwin Cemetery. Mr. Thompson was born in Miami County, Indiana April 7, 1840, and resided there until 1852, when he removed to eastern Iowa. He came to Adams County in 1854, and was a resident of this county until the death of his wife about four years ago, after which he went to live with the daughter at whose house he died. Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, seven of whom are living. They are Mesdames Annie E. Cummings of Kansas, Lillie Dale Pennington of Creston, Lulu May Bean of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Rosa Van Elst of Cedar Rapids. William Warner, pastor of the United Evangelic Church at Anita, Harley H., baggage master, Cedar Rapids, and Merren Merle of the U. S. Army.
