William Henry Barker Thompson, passed from this life Sunday morning, July 1, 1928, following an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10:30 at the M. E. Church, conducted by Rev. E. S. Menocher. Interment was made in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson is the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Thompson. He was born in Kewanee, Illinois, March 11, 1850, and lived there until about 18 years of age. He was married March 6, 1872 to Marie E. Pruitt of Chevause, Illinois. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson came to Corning in 1874 and with the exception of four years spent in Creston, some time in Chicago, and a year and three months in Des Moines, he has made his home in this city. He leaves his faithful wife, and the following children; Arthur Thompson of Lainsboro, Illinois; Mrs. H. H. Minick, Des Moines; Louis E. Thompson of Red Oak; Mrs. J. J. Andrews of Minneapolis; Frank W. Thompson of Corning; Mrs. M. F. Swanson, Cedar Rapids; also seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren, besides three brothers, Andy, Dick, and William Thompson; and two cousins, Mrs. O. M. Bixby and John J. Thompson, both of Corning.
Mr. Thompson and his father established a harness shop in Quincy and later moved to Corning. The subject of this sketch was also for many years a painter and decorator and was well known to most Corning residents.
The pall bearers were Mr. Thompson's grandsons, Darwin Minick and Floyd, Don, Ed, Harold, and Everett, Thompson.
