Mrs. Andrew Thompson, Sr. passed away Monday afternoon at 5:35 at her residence on the corner of Seventh and Grove Avenue after an illness extending over a period of sixteen years. She was aged 88 years, 10 months, and 18 days. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at the home, conducted by Rev. J. W. Taylor. Interment was made in Walnut Grove Cemetery beside her husband who died January 26, 1912. Margaret Inman was born December 13, 1825 in Washington County, Ohio, where she lived until 1840, when her parents removed to Burlington, Iowa, making the trip by water, down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. She remained there until 1838, when she removed to Weatherfield, Illinois, where she was married to Andrew Thompson, April 7, 1849. Twelve children were born to them, among them a set of triplets. The living children are William Thompson and Mrs. Minnie Dewees of Corning, Andrew Thompson of Greeley, Colorado; James L. Thompson of Council Bluffs; Richard B. Thompson of Denver. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson removed to this county in 1863, remaining a short time, returning to Illinois, making the trip both ways by wagon. They returned here settling at Quincy in 1873, where they conducted the old Hurt hotel, since destroyed by fire. Mr. Thompson also conducted a harness shop at Quincy. At that time Afton was the nearest railroad and the Thompsons handled their affects from that place. They resided a short time in Missouri prior to removing to Quincy. Mrs. Thompson has a sever fall in 1897 in which her hip was injured, and from which she never recovered. About five weeks ago she had another fall and was confined to her bed until death released her from her suffering Monday. Besides her children, she leaved twenty-five grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
