Harriett Shaffer, 100, Red Oak, was born to James and Gertrude Collins Lake on April 27, 1896 in Mills County. She died June 6, 1996 at the Red Oak Good Samaritan Center, after an extended illness.
She was married to John Shaffer December 21, 1916 and they farmed in Montgomery County. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Red Oak and the Acorn Acres Quilting Club where she had lived for many years. She had lived at the Red Oak Good Samaritan Center for the last seven years.
Mrs. Shaffer was preceded in death by her parents: husband in 1966; a sister; two brothers; two grandchildren; and a great grandchild.
She is survived by her children; Harry Shaffer (wife Merle Jean) Shaffer, Emerson, Doris Towne of Corning; Gayle Swanson, Red Oak; Jean (husband Harold) Hughes, Henderson. Ruby (husband William) Lister, Red Oak, Blanche (husband Milo) Sederburg, Red Oak, 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held July 11 at the Nelson-Boylan Funeral Chapel in Red Oak with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery at Red Oak.
Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak First United Methodist Church, Acorn Acres, Red Oak Good Samaritan Center, or the Heart Fund.
