Erwin Rees Miller, son of Edgar and Lottie Pickett Miller, was born November 27, 1888 in Adams County, Iowa and passed away very suddenly at his home on March 19, 1964 at the age of 75 years, 3 months, and 22 days.
Erwin had spent most of his life in this vicinity with the exception of a few years living near Tryon, Nebraska and Rockwell City. He was educated in the Adams County schools.
On June 24, 1913, he ws united in marriage to Lela M. Hanna at Red Oak. The couple started farming on the old Wm. Bixler farm near Quincy. To this union three children, Max of Corning, Mrs. Ruth Killion of Gretna, Nebraska, and Mrs. Roger Peterson of Corning, were born.
He was preceded in death on February 20, 1960 by his wife, Lela, his parents and one brother, Roy also preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Clara, whom he married February 14, 1962, his children, Max, Ruth, and Mary; one sister, Helen Priest of Hemet, California; one brother, Harold of Hemet, California, a sister-in-law, Marie Miller of Hemet, California; ten loving grandchildren; two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law; a number of loyal nieces and nephews.
Erwin was a very industrious hard working man all of his life, in later hers he found most pleasures in his yard, garden, and flowers. Many a relative and neighbor enjoyed gifts of fruit and vegetables from his garden, this giving him much pleasure.
Erwin will be sadly missed by his bereaved ones in the family circle, especially his children. He was an unselfish father, a good neighbor and this memory will be the after glow of his long life of over 75 years.
Funeral serves were held Saturday, March 21, at 1:30 p.m. from the Roland Funeral Home in Corning, with Rev. John Wagner officiating. Music was by Mrs. Bert Peckham, Mrs. Doyle Tranbarger, and Mrs. Dick Cook. Pall bearers were Virgil Nelson, Walter Nelson, Ira Robison, Lester Nelson, Len Morris, and Roland Swartz.
Interment was in Quincy Cemetery.
