Lloyd Verle Warren was born October 23, 1911, in Prussia Township, Adair
County, Iowa the son of Leonard and Katie (Goetz) Warren. As a youngster the
family moved to the Brooks area and later to a farm near Lake Bender near Corning.
He graduated with the Class of 1931 from the Corning High School. He farmed
and also worked in the Carbon Coal Mines. In 1940, he entered the United States
Army serving in the European Theater; he was discharged in August of 1943,
and later recalled to the service in November of 1944, where he worked mining
uranium in Leadville, Colorado. After his second discharge in 1946 he returned
to farming. On July 16,1946, he was united in marriage to Irma Swain McManus
in Troy, Kansas. Irma had three children prior to their marriage and the
addition of their two sons, Larry and Ken, made the family complete. Irma passed
away in 1980. In 1987, Lloyd sold the family farm, moving to town where he started his
wood shop. He moved to Brooks for several years, later moving to Plymouth, Iowa to
live with his son Larry where he resided at the time of his death. He was a member
of the Corning Christian Church. Lloyd was passionate about woodworking and making
clocks was his specialty. He made and ate pancakes every day for most of his life! He was
a quiet man, very well read, and up on current events, especially politics. Lloyd's
family was his greatest joy.
Left to cherish Lloyd's memory are three sons, Allen McManus and wife Eleanor of
Corning; Ken Warren and wife Vicki of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin; and Larry Warren
and special friend Suzie of Plymouth, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren; and many many
great-grandchildren and greatgreat-grandchildren.
Preceding Lloyd in death were his parents; his wife Irma in 1980; two daughters,
Joyce Means and Peggy Armstrong; a brother, William Hepler; and a
grandson, Clifford Haley.
