Mullen, Everett Glen -
Everett Glen Mullen of Corning was born August 10, 1913 northwest of Villisca on
the family farm to W.S. and Myrtle Clara Mullen. He attended country school
through the eighth grade and then stayed home to help on the farm, something
that was common for that time.
Everett married Doris Hultquist on April 13, 1944. To this union, four sons and one
daughter were born: Carol, Richard, Denny, Glen and Colleen.
After their marriage, Everett and Doris lived on the family farm for a while and
then moved to a farm where his mother grew up. In 1966, they purchased the
farm four miles west of Corning where they resided for 22 years.
Everett loved to farm the land and raise livestock. He always believed in hard
work and took pride in his old John Deere B and Farmall M tractors.
Not long after buying the farm, the conservation district built a lake on the
farm as part of a watershed project. The lake brought a lot of enjoyment
to the family with cruising around in an old wooden boat and fishing.
Everett loved music. In his younger days, he played the accordion, guitar and
harmonica at square dances on Saturday nights in people's homes. Later in life,
he played at the nursing home, county home and at hospital functions.
He always had a good ear for music and could sit down and listen to a tune a couple of
times and then play it on one of his instruments. Polka music was one of his favorite
types of music.
Everett is survived by his wife, Doris, of 63 years; five children and their families,
Carol and Alice Mullen, Essex; Richard and Sharon Mullen, Prague, Ne.; Denny and
Nancy Mullen, Westminster, Co.; Glen Mullen, Creston; Colleen and Randy Larimer,
Bedford; grandchildren, Todd Mullen, Corning; Michael Mullen, Misty and Don
Burmeister, Omaha, Ne.; Steve and Brook Mullen, Westminster, Co.; Jason and
Amanda Mullen, Denver, Co.; Shannon Mullen and Tony Wilson, Omaha, Ne.; Cinda
and James Whitten, Winterset; and Harold Larimer, Ames; eight great grand-
children and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
