Brokaw, Stanley Lee -
Stanley Lee Brokaw, Corning, IA. passed away at the Southwest Iowa Regional
Medical Center, Creston, IA. October 16, 2005.
Stanley Lee was born in Mercer Township, Adams County, Iowa (Corning), to
Leland Stanford and Lucille Grace (Kempton) Brokaw.
On September 10, 1950 he was married to Phyllis Lee Driskill at the Methodist
Church, Corning, IA.
He was a farmer in Mercer Township, Adams County, IA. He was a Ford/Mercury
dealer in Corning for 23 years. He served as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church; was
a long-time member of the Corning Rotary Club and was the recipient of the Distinguished
Paul Harris Award; was a former active member of the Corning Gun Club; served 25
years with the Adams County Conservation Board during the building of Lake Icaria;
the former President of the Chamber of Commerce; a former officer of the
Quarterback Club; member of the National Cyclone Club; a Charter Member of the
N.F.O.; owner of the Brokaw Family Century Farm of 135 years; and a member of the Happy
Hollow Country Club.
Services were held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at the Presbyterian
Church, Corning, IA. Pastor Ken Rummer of the Presbyterian Church conducted
the service. Internment was in the Walnut Grove Cemetery, Corning, IA.
Stanley Lee is survived by his wife, Phyllis Lee and two sons: Randall Lee "Chet"
Brokaw, Pierre, South Dakota; David Dean Brokaw, Corning (significant other,
Melody Wiley, Creston); and a daughter: Lynn Denise (Rick) Hickman, Melbourne,
IA. One brother, Donald Dean (Joanna) Brokaw, Corning, IA. Eight grandchildren: Leland
N. Brokaw, Rebecca Lynn (husband Joe), Dunham; Teresa Mary (husband Tim) Rummer;
Leah Mae Brokaw; David Dean Brokaw II; Michael Wm. Brokaw; Brian Leland Hickman,
Trevor Brokaw Hickman, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his. sister, Rowena Kurd; a sister-in-law,
Madeline Driskill; a brother-in-law, Dale Kurd; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dean
and Ruth Driskell.
