Virgil O. Narigon
Virgil Oscar Narigon, 92. Corning, was born June 8, 1903, near Highland in Adams County to Oscar and Effie Bixler Narigon. He died in Coming July 27. 1995.
He was a lifetime resident of Adams County and graduated from Corning High School in 1922 where he was a member of their winning track team. In hie senior year he ran on a mile relay team that had the second fastest time In the state. After graduation he worked for area farmers for several years and also followed the wheat harvest in Iowa and South Dakota.
On Jan. 27, 1927, he married Flossie Brown at the Methodist Parsonage In Omaha, Neb. They began farming in Nodaway/ay and later moved to the Brown family farm north of Nodaway where they lived for many years. After retiring the couple moved to the house on his family farm.
Mr. Narigon was an active member of the Nodaway Methodist Church, the Adams County 4-H. and the Farm Bureau. He raised shorthorn cattle and was a member of the Shorthorn Association He was a salesman for DeKalb Seeds and Walnut Grove Feed for several years. He used Percheron horses in his farming operation and traded two Percherons for his first Farmall tractor In 1939.
He was preceded in death by his parents his wife in 1983: and his brother John Narigon.
He is survived by his children Effie Lee (husband Jim) Boggess, Villisca, Joe (wife Fran) Narigon Eureka Springs. Ark.. Don (wife Cheryl) Narigon, Nodaway, and Elinor Newman. Littleton, Colo., 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren;
and sister Ethel (husband Floyd) Dann. East Lansing, Mich
Services were held July 31 at the Methodist Church in Nodawav with Rev. Clark Finehout officiating. Burial was in the Nodaway Cemetery at Nodaway.
Casket bearers were Ed Narigon, Tim Narigon, Mike Narigon, David Narigon. Dick Boggess. and Jim Bogges, Honorary bearers were his other grandchildren.
