This community was greatly saddened on Friday morning of last week when it was made known that Grandma Rider had passed to her great reward. Mrs. Rider has been in poor health for a number of years, but was bed fast only a week before she passed away. During the many years that Grandma has made this vicinity her home, she made many friends by whom she will be greatly missed and who mourn her departure.
Helen Tyler was born in Herkimer County, New York, March 24, 1841, and passed away at her home in Nodaway, Iowa, April 27, 1923, being at the time aged 82 years, 1 month, and 3 days.
In December 1862, she was united in marriage to Gates Adams, who passed away three years later. On March 17, 1872, she was united in marriage to Wm. A. Rider and to this union one child was born, a daughter, Maud Etheline, who preceded the mother in death, January 12, 1889, leaving a family of two children, Harold and Jessie Narigon, who were cared for by their grandparents until they went into homes of their own, both residing in Nodaway. Besides the two grandchildren, also four step sons, Elmer E. Rider of Sanquolt, New York, Burton L. Rider, of Oswego, New York, Fred D. Rider of Bristol, Illinois, and Leon W. Rider of Nodaway, and one brother, Augustus Tyler of New York. The husband, Wm. A. Rider having preceded her in death on February 2, 1923.
In 1887 she came with her husband and family to Iowa locating near Nodaway in which community she has since resided. During early childhood she united with a Christian Church in New York and after removing to Iowa transferred her membership to the Methodist Church at Nodaway of which she remained a faithful member to the last. Although denied the pleasure of regular attendance for a number of years because of ill health. In the passing of Grandma Rider the home circle will lose a kind and loving member and the community a noble Christian character.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church. Services conducted by Rev. S. R. Overholser. Interment made in the Nodaway Cemetery.
The many friends extend their sympathy to the bereaved ones, in the passing of this dear and loving mother, grandmother, and sister.
