Thomas Reese, son of Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Reese, was born in Wales, June 4, 1847 and died at his home in Carbon, Iowa, November 14, 1927, aged 80 years, 5 months, and 11 days. When just a boy, he came with his parents to America and settled in Scotsdale, Pennsylvania. After attaining his majority he found employment in Streator, Illinois, where he united in marriage to Miss Nancy Dick on March 3, 1873. To this union five children were born, Ben F., and Mrs. Minnie Carter of Carbon; Mrs. Lottie Stone of Hamburg, and Ida and Tom, who preceded the father in death. Mr. and Mrs. Reese moved to Red Oak, Iowa in 1875, then in 1877 the family moved to Carbon, where with the exception of five years, they have since resided.
Mr. Reese spent the most of his active life as a worker in the coal mines. In fact only failing health caused him to give up his work. Thus for more than a half a century the shared in the work that has so much to do with the comfort and health of the American people. For the past year he has been practically confined to his home. The end came suddenly, but peacefully after a few days of failing strength.
Father Reese leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and children, four grandchildren, three half-sisters, two half-brothers, and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the M.E. Church in Carbon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. W. Johnson, and the remains were laid to rest in the Quincy Cemetery.
