Mrs. Grace Atwood Thomas, daughter of John Thomas Atwood and Alice Belle Cooper, was born January 27, 1889 near New Market, Taylor County, Iowa and passed away August 10, 1950 at the hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 61 years, 6 months, and 14 days. When she was thirteen years of age her parents moved to Oklahoma and she remained in the home of her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Salyards of New Market. She grew to womanhood in this vicinity.
she was united in marriage to Daniel G. Thomas, who preceded her in death October 22, 1929. To this union was born one son, Edward Thomas of Corning.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of the Fairview Church and it was her pleasure to see her son's family further their interest in the same church. Since the death of her husband she has spent most of her time caring for her home and for the sick. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Royal Neighbors Lodge.
In addition to her son and wife and two grandchildren. Daniel and Jane Thomas, she leaves to mourn her passing four sisters and three brothers, Lura Atwood and Mrs. Claude Isreal of Kingsley, Kansas; Mrs. Leonard Miller of Lewis Kansas; Mrs. Ethyl Gaston of Kansas City, Kansas, Otha Atwood, Offerle, Kansas, Earl Atwood, Superior, Arizona; and Forrest Atwood of Aztec, New Mexico and many other relatives and friends.
Services were held Sunday, August 13, at 3 p.m. in the Corning Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Loren Lair of Des Moines. Music was by Mrs. Russell Roland and John Riegel accompanied by Margaret Snodgrass. Pall bearers were Walter Mortvedt, Jim Keefe, Ralph Neil, Edward Goldsmith, Burr Long and Harry Leonard. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
