Estella May Palmer Odell

Estella May, daughter of Jane Cole Palmer and Abel Palmer, was born May 31, 1875 on a farm northwest of Brooks and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bernie Carroll in Elma, Iowa, April 21, 1957, at the age of 81 years, 10 months, and 20 days. As a child she attended the rural schools of Adams County and later taught for a short time.
On February 23, 1896, she was married to Dello T. Odell. In 1942 Mr. and Mrs. Odell observed their Golden Anniversary and were privileged to be honored with 57 years of married life before Mr. Odell passed away on April 21, 1956, exactly two years before the passing of his faithful companion. One daughter, Mrs. Gladice Henry preceded her mother in death, April 28, 1955. Mrs. Odell's health failed rapidly following the passing of her husband and daughter and during this time she has been most faithfully and loving cared for by her daughter, Bernice.
Mrs. Odell is survived by Mrs. Carroll, Elms, Iowa, a son , Clifford, Corning, Mrs. Mildred Westlake, Corbett, Oregon; one brother, Frank Palmer, Council Bluffs; three sons-in-law, Glen Henry, Claude Carroll, and Don Westlake; one daughter-in-law, Mildred Odell; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and a large number of nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and daughter, she was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Elmer, and Charles Palmer; four sisters, Mrs. Sue Penton, Mrs. Ella Moelher, Mrs. Lottie Cole, and Mrs. Ida King, and one granddaughter, Betty Carroll.
She was a member of the Methodist Church in Brooks and was always ready to share her labor and her efforts with her church and community.
Services were held Wednesday, April 24, 1957, at 2 p.m. rom the Methodist Church in Brooks, Iowa with the Rev. Brown Garlock and Joe Cook in charge. Interment was in the Brooks Cemetery.
Music for the services was furnished by John Riegel, accompanied by Mrs. Joe Cook, pianist.
Pall bearers were Ivan Stillinger, Glen Shewman, Loren Fuller, Daleton Boswell, C. C. Clark, and Donald Mercer.
