Norman A. Magnusson, 83, of Mendota, Illinois, died December 15, 1987 at the Mendota Community Hospital, Mendota, Illinois. Graveside services were conducted December 18, Rev. William Anderson of the First United Presbyterian Church of Medota officiated. Burial was in the Restland Cemetery in Mendota, Illinois.
Mr. Magnusson was born November 20, 1904 in Lansing, Iowa. He married Rosa Stella Cady in Corning, Iowa, August 8, 1928. He owned and operated a meat and grocery store on Davis Avenue in Corning from 1928 to 1937. He served as deputy under Sheriff Earl Gibson for several years.
He became a special agent detective for the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad in 1942, when he and his wife and family moved to Mendota. He retired from the railroad in 1985 and began a career in public service in the Bellevue, Nebraska area and was name Man of the Year there in 1968.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Robert of Altanta, Geogia; one daughter, James (Louise) Edward of Aurora; one brother Milton of Phoenix, Arizona; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Howard (Marguerite) Foster. Casket bearers were, Richard and Greg Foster, Jose Rivers, Norman Magnusson II, and Michael and Kris Jurasek.
