Sylvia Lucy Sanburn Ross, oldest daughter of William and Mina Sanburn was born January 24, 1886 at Fairbury, Nebraska and departed from this life at 11:15 on May 11, 1945 at the age of 59 years, 3 months, and 17 days. She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Martin Schroeder.
She moved with her parents to Nodaway in 1900 and spent the remainder of her life in that vicinity. She was united with the church in early life.
She was united in marriage to Madison Ross on November 7, 1906 and to this union seven children were born. They are Mrs. Fern Dillinger of Corning, Iowa, Estel of Nodaway, Mrs. Wilma Zuber of Nodaway, Clarence of corning, Sgt. Wayne in Germany, and Chester, Army, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. four step-children, Mrs. Jessie Higgins, of Villisca, Merle, Nodaway, Harold of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Mrs. Pansy Schroeder, Corning. 18 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, 11 great-step-children. Her husband and one daughter, Vera, her parents, two sisters, and two brothers preceded her in death. One sister, Essie, one brother, Will, one foster sister, Martha, survive her along with other relatives and friends. Mrs. Ross was in poor health for a number of years but took as much part in neighborly acts as she was able. She attended Mt. Zion church east of Nodaway s that was the neighborhood church. She also belonged to the Royal Neighbor Lodge. She was well known in a large community as she had lived in several places and had a large acquaintanceship wherever she lived.
Funeral services were held from the Sutphen Funeral Home in Villisca, Sunday afternoon, May 13, at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. K. B. Kishbaugh. Interment was made in Prairie Rose Cemetery. Music was furnished by Martin Taylor, Roy Means, Mrs. Harold Everett, and Mrs. Ray Dismukes with Mrs. Martin Taylor at the piano.
Pall bearers were Virgil King, Virgil Dillinger, Vernon Shank, Boyd Brown, Freddie Mack, and Loren Templeton.
