Mary Newlin, daughter of Henry and Sarah Newlin was born in Decatur County, Iowa August 18, 1858 and died at her home in Nodaway, Iowa January 5, 1933, at the age of 74 years, 4 months, and 7 days. All her life was spent in Decatur County.
She was married to Jackson Bixler, February 1, 1905. they lived on a farm in Adams County until the autumn of 1919 when they moved to Nodaway where her husband died June 25, 1929.
At the age of fifteen she gave her life to her Master, Jesus Christ, and united with the Advent Christian Church at Woodland, Iowa. She remained a faithful member of the church until the time of her death, having transferred her membership to the Highland Church and later to Villisca. Those who knew her were helped by her Christian life.
For the last fifteen years she has been an invalid most of the time and was away from her home but a few times.
She leaves to mourn her death one sister, Mrs. Cynthia Coontz of Leon, Iowa; three brothers, James Newlin of Winfield, Kansas, William Newlin and D. H. Newlin of Leon, Iowa; her stepson, Roy M. Bixler of Droville, California, and several nephews and nieces.
The funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon, January 6, conducted by Rev. George Arthur, pastor of the A. C. Church in Villisca, assisted by Rev. Emry of Nodaway. Interment was made in the Oakland Cemetery at Quincy. Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Aldridge of Villisca, Mrs. Lillie Kirk, L. M. Bixler, and Mrs. E. L. Hoyt of Corning; Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Barr and Archie Coontz of Leon, Iowa, and Jessie Leatherman of Brooks.
