Perry Franklin Cummings, son of William Riley and Eleanor Van Horn Cummings, was born in Montgomery County, Iowa on January 27, 1874 and passed away at the Rosary Hospital in Corning on August 5, 1961 at the age of 87 years, 5 months, and 9 days.
He was united in marriage to Pauline Kernen on April 9, 1902 at Nodaway. Pauline preceded him in death on July 2, 1933.
On January 29, 1936 he was united in marriage to Clare Thomas at Mt. Etna, Iowa.
When a small boy he moved to Nodaway with his parents where he grew to manhood. He received his education in Nodaway public school. While in Nodaway he assisted his father and brothers operate a grain elevator and portable saw mill. In 1907 he moved to Villisca where he followed the painting and decorating business. In February of 1910 he moved to Corning, where he and his brother Joe entered the hardware business. He remained in that business until January of 1951 at which time he sold the business to Walter Brown. Mr. Cummings retired at that time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John, Albert, and Joseph, and two half-brothers, Earl and Lowell.
He was a faithful member of the Church of the Brethren of Mt. Etna and he lived a consistent Christian life.
Survivors include his wife, Clare; one niece Mrs. Eleanor Kelly of Corning; two nephews, John L. Cummings of Corning and Leighton W. Cummings of Boise, Idaho; three half-sisters and one half-brother and their families.
