Frederick Randolf KERNEN
Mr. & Mrs. Fred Carothers received the sad news Saturday evening that their grandson, Randolph Kernen had been killed in a plane accident at Ralston, Iowa. They left at noon to be with the family, Mr. and Mrs. Paul rider driving them up. Quite a number of the relatives and friends from here attended the funeral which was held at Ralston, Monday afternoon.

Fredrick Randolph Kernen, son of Charles and Vivian Kernen, was born November 19, 1921 at Nodaway, Iowa and departed this life June 4th, 1949 at Ralston, Iowa at the age of 27 years, 6 months, and 15 days. He spent his early childhood with his parents on a farm near Nodaway where he was a member of the Methodist Church. He graduated from the Nodaway High School in 1938 and accompanied his parents to Carrol County in 1942, where he has since made his home. He enlisted in the United States Navy on December 29, 1941 where he served as a Machinist Mate 2nd Class on the U.S.S. Destroyer. He was discharged October 14th, 1945. He was united in marriage to Helen Theresa Garey at Las Vegas, Nevada. To this union were born two children, Randolph and Pamela Rae. He was preceded in death by one brother, Clyde Eugene. He leaves to mourn his passing besides his wife and children, his parents, one sister, Mrs. Kenneth Tranter, Wilma, one brother Lyle of Glidden, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Carothers, Nodaway and many friends. He was a loving husband and father, a good friend and neighbor, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services were held from the Ralston E.U.B. Church, Monday at 1:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. C. E. Kitsineer. Music was furnished by Mrs. Helen Knight and Lowell Kidney, with Mrs. Kidney at the piano. They sang, "Sometime We'll Understand" "Good Morning Up There." Casket bearers were Henry Jordan, Francis Signall, John Watt, Ronald Allen, Dale Linn, and Keith Markley. Interment was in the Dillavou Cemetery.
