Charles Randolph Kernen
Charles Randolph Kernen, son of Gottlieb and Louisa Kernen, was born Sept. 3, 1890 in Nodawaay, Adams County, Iowa and passed away Aug. 19 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 16 days.
He was united in marriage to Doris Vivian Carothers, Feb. 14, 1921. To this union, four children were born, two of whom have passed away, Clyde and Randolph.
He is survived by his wife and a daughter, Wilma Tranter and a son, Lysle, both of Long Beach, Calif., a granddaughter and two grandsons.
Charles was the youngest of a family of nine children. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister and three brothers and is survived by two sisters and two brothers, Louise Rider of Nodaway, Clara Munson of Denver, Colo., William and Henry of Villisca.
He and his family lived on the home farm, north of Nodaway until 1939, when they moved to Scranton, Iowa, later moving to Glidden where they have since resided. He was a veteran of W\V I, a member of the Glidden Methodist Church and Haggai Lodge No. 369, A. F. & A. M.
Masonic rites were held on Monday evening at the funeral home in Glidden with Haggai Lodge in charge. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Glidden at 10:30 Tuesday morning, conducted by Rev. Earl McGinness.
Interment was in the cemetery at Nodaway at 2:30 in the afternoon. Pallbearers were Theron Kernen, Henry Kernen, Jr., Russel Kernen, Leslie Kernen, Dr. R. W. Good and Gilbert Rider.
