Funeral services for Charles N. Kennedy, who died in his home in Nodaway, June 27, 1946, were held in the Methodist Church of Nodaway, Sunday afternoon at 2:3- June 30. the Rev. Carl f. Stiefel was officiating clergyman, assisted by reverend Wayne E. Sheffel. the Sutphen Funeral Home of Villisca was in charge of general arrangements. Burial was in the Nodaway Cemetery.
Pall bearers were DeForest Simpson, M. Hendrickson, Martin Taylor, William Lacox, Glenn Windom, and Virgil Narigon.
Miss Iola Orme sang "In the Time of Roses" at the church services. "Crossing the Bar" was sung by Mrs. J. R. Dismakes and Miss Iola Orme. Pianist was Mrs. Marlin Taylor.
Charles N. Kennedy, son of Edward and Sarah Shipley Kennedy, was born near Nodaway in Adams County, Iowa, November 13, 1873. He married Alice L. Lyon, August 1, 1895. She died December 31, 1923. Three persons survive from this marriage, all of Bel Air, Maryland: Mrs. Mildred Wright, daughter, Ernest C. and Ernest C. Wright, Junior, grandson, and great-grandson respectively.
January 11, 1925, Charles N. Kennedy married Corinna McClelland. In addition to his wife, the following persons survive; five brothers, Frank, Edward, William, and Fred of Nodaway, Phillip of Corning; three sisters, Mrs. Edna Fravel of Lake City, Iowa, Nellie of Nodaway; Mrs. Winifred McClelland of Villisca; one niece Mrs. Howard Spring, who was reared in the Kennedy home.
Two brothers and one sister died in infancy. One granddaughter also preceded him in death.
Charles N. Kennedy was confirmed in the Methodist Church as a young man. He was an active member throughout his life. For nearly half a century he taught the men's class of the Nodaway Methodist church. He was a careful and devoted student of the Bible.
