Sarah Shipley Kennedy was born in Morgan County Ohio, October 20, 1851 to David Shipley and Mary Bean and died at her home near Nodaway October 15, 1923, aged 71 years, 11 months, and 25 days. She lived in Ohio until 1860 when she came with her parents moved to Adams County Iowa, where she has resided ever since. April 13, 1870 she was united in marriage to Ed Kennedy. To this union twelve children were born of whom ten are now living, Lawrence Charles, Edna, Frank, Edward, William B. Philip H., Nellie, and Winnifred She is also survived by one brother, Charles. N. Shipley and one sister Lavina E. Fisher, also eighteen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She was raised in the Quaker belief and to this belief she held throughout her life. She never united with any church but was a devout student of the Bible and was always ready to testify of her belief in Christ and his saving power and often talked of her faith in Him and love for her Savior. Nearly her last conscious words were "God has been good to me, my peace is made and I am ready to go." In looking over the Bible many marked passages and the written notations thereon speak of her faith and devotion and are a source of comfort to her loved one who survive her. Truly of her it can be said, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth there is layed up me a crown of righteousness.
Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. W. C. McClelland and interment was made in the Nodaway Cemetery. We join in extending sympathy to the bereaved ones in this hour of sorrow.
