SHULER, WALKER, TURNER

The UNION has to chronicle this week the death of Mr. J. A. Shuler, one of our most esteemed and valued citizens.
It had been known for several months that Mr. Shuler was suffering of the fatal malady, Bright's disease of the kidneys, but our citizens were totally unprepared for the sudden death which came about ten o'clock, Tuesday morning. Mr. Shuler has resided among us for about six years and was ever an upright, honest, conscientious and good citizen in every way. He was an active member of the M. E. church.
The funeral occurred from his late home on Wednesday at eleven o'clock conducted by Rev. W. O. Allen, assisted by Rev. T.D. Ewing. A large assembly of friends gathered to pay the last sad rites to his memory. The ceremony was very solemn and impressive. The interment was made in Prairie Rose cemetery.
JOHN ALEXANDER SHULER
Was born in North Carolina, Nov. 24, 1838 and departed this life at his home in Corning, Iowa, March 10, 1880. He belonged to a family of eight childron, six of whom are still living. His father died at the advanced age of 75 years and his mother at 70. He came to Illinois in 1849 and in, 1875 made his home in Adams county.
In January of 1858 he was married to Sarah Rigsby by whom he became the father of three children one only of whom, Mrs. Laura Sperling, is yet living. Having been bereft of his first wife, he became the husband of Caroline Walker. This marriage taking place at Brooklyn, Illinois March 10, 1865.
Three children came from this union, two of whom, Henry and Mrs. Ella Turner still live.
Mr. Shuler was converted and united with the M. E. church at the age of 23.
A few days before his death he talked with his wife concerning tho future and assured her that she might rest easy as he had settled the account and was ready to go. His family are not alone in their bereavement for he will be missed by the community at large, by his old neighbors, and by others with whom he has long sustained an acquaintance.
