Peter Addison Strait died at his home in Douglas township Saturday, November 4, 1916, aged 58 years and 21 days. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 8th, at the North Class M.E. Church, conducted by Rev. Fred Moore, of Brooks. Interment was made in the Baldwin Cemetery.
Peter Addison Strait was born in Athens County, Ohio, October 21, 1858. He was the son of Jacob and Sarah Strait. At the age of eight years Mr. Addison came to Iowa with his parents and settled in Douglas township, Adams County, where he grew to manhood and was married December 31, 1882, to Miss Josie M. McCord. He and his wife began housekeeping about a mile and a half from the home of his parents, and he lived there until his death.
To Mr. and Mrs. Strait, fifteen children were born, one of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are Jacob M. Strait, Blakeslee, Mont.;Mrs. Minnie Wescoat, of Clarks, Nebraska; Cyrus Strait, Grass Range, Montana; Blaine L. of this vicintiy; Mrs. Celia Ritnour, Nodaway; Warren Strait, Carbon; and Elgin,Arlin, Donald, Iva, Blanche, Flossie, Bryon and Agnes at home. Beside his wife and children, Mr. Strait is survived by ten grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Ellen James and Mrs. Sarah Ann Taylor of this vicinity and Mrs. Mary Crist of Shawnee, Oklaoma. Mr. Strait was a member of the North Class M.E. Church, with which he united in 1894. He was one of the highly respected citizens of the community.
