Harrison H. Means Dies - Lenox

Harrison Henry Means, 100, of Lenox, passed away Sunday, May 2, 1993 at the Lenox Care Center.

He was born March 15, 1893, near Carbon, Adams County, Iowa, the son of Melvin Andrew and Lettie May (Crist) Means. He attended country school in Adams County. On Dec. 25, 1912 he married Rosa Hardisty. They observed their 70th wedding anniversary on Dec. 25, 1972.

They lived in several homes in the Windyville, Mount Etna and Carl areas and owned and operated the Mount Etna store for several years. They farmed in Worth County, Missouri and retired in 1957. At that time they moved back to Iowa, Making their homes in Gravity, Bedford and Lenox, before moving to Corning in 972.

Mr. Means is survived by three daughters, Violet Antisdel of Creston, Opal (husband Bernard) Tompkins of Maryville, Mo. and Dorthea (husband David) Fisher of Sachse, Texas; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Merle Robison of Corning, Doris McVay of Anita, Monola Freemeyer and Velma Lee, both of Creston; and a sister-in-law Ruby Powell of Mount Ayr.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1983, parents, son Elmo in 1919, three sisters, Mavis Malone, Blanche Taylor and Pearl Cipra; a brother, Basil Means; two sons-in-laws, Rex Ruch and Cecil Antisdel; and two grandsons.

Services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Coen-Beaty funeral Home in Corning with the Rev. Robert Pickerell, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Creston officiating. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Quincy.
