Many oldtime friends will regret to learn of the death of J.H. James (Joseph Henry), an old Adams County resident,which occurred February 23, 1921, at Pond Creek, Oklahoma, the news just reaching us a few days ago. He had been ill for many months and was a great sufferer but bore his pain with fortitude and was very patient. The funeral was held February 25th at the Christian Church at Pond Creek, the services being conducted by the pastor, Rev. Summer T. Martin, in the presence of an unusually large concourse of friends and neighbors. Interment was made in Pond Creek Cemetery.
Joseph Henry James was born in the state of Indiana May 6, 1857, and was aged 63 years, 9 months and 16 days. He was married to Sarah Ann Strait, October 26,1879. They resided for a time north of Brooks, later removing to a farm south of Prescott, where he lived untl 1895, when he removed to Oklahoma with his family where he homesteaded, later purchasng more land. He resided on his farm until health failed a couple of years ago, when he and his wife removed to Pond Creek where his death occurred.
Besides his wife he leaves four sons and two daughters, five grandchildren,one brother, one sister, one half-brother and three half-sisters. He was a member of the Prescott Christian Church, uniting in 1891, and lived a christian life.
