Robert Grover McClelland, the son of John and Sarah Fargitt McClelland was born January 5, 1885 near the Methodist Grove Community in Adams County, Iowa and passed away July 5, 1981 at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa at the age of 95 years, 6 months, and 3 days. His death came after a short illness.
He was united in marriage September 15, 1909 to Artie M. Naven at the Presbyterian parsonage in Corning. The celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary, September 15, 1979 with an open house at the park in Corning, where they were blessed by many friends and relatives.
Mr. McClelland attended school in Adams County as a boy and was active in the Methodist Grove Church and the Iveyville church. After his marriage the couple moved to South Dakota, where they farmed in several different places. They resided there until 1967 when they moved back to Iowa. They farmed in the Iveyville, Lenox, and Mercer Center areas and white there they were active in church and community activities. (blurry-can't read)
He enjoyed many happy hours working in his garden until the last two years, when his health started failing. His many nieces and nephews who survive will remember him sharing of vegetables and beautiful flowers from his garden. He especially enjoyed taking care of their flower garden. Bob had a wonderful memory and always had an interesting story to tell of the days past.
Funeral services were held at Larkin-Roland Funeral Home in Corning July 10 at 11:00 a.m. with Joe Cook officiating. Interment was in Prairie Rose Cemetery.
Music was provided by Erma Fuller, organist and Doris Swartz, vocalist. Casket bearers were Hollis, Edward, Ronald, and Norman Marv's and Max Pool, Mich McClelland, and Emmett Bennett.
