Marilla Brown Goldsmith, daughter of James and Jerusha Brown, was born at Keithsburg, Illinois on Mary 23, 1878, and departed from this life on June 30, 1934 at her home near Corning, at the age of 56 years, 1 month, and 7 days. She was united in marriage to Alvin B. Goldsmith on January 5, 1895. Her husband remains to mourn her loss. to this union was born six children, one daughter, Lucille having preceded her mother in death and five sons, Edward James, Oliver, Lewis, and Francis, all of near Corning. Mrs. Goldsmith had twelve brothers and sisters. Those preceding her in death were Mary Wood, henry Brown, Martha Hubbart, Sally Meek, and Nettie Peregrine. Her living brothers and sisters are: Ben Brown of near Prescott; Marion Brown of near Brooks; Edward Brown of Hopkins, Missouri; Arthur Brown of Lewistown, California; Mrs. Emma Gates of Gravity, Iowa; Mrs, Rhoda Walter of Orange Cove, California; and Harper Brown of near Corning. She also had eight grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
She joined the Methodist Church of Brooks in her early womanhood and was a kind and loving mother. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and loved ones.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Brooks M. E. Church at 2:00 o'clock with Rev. Overhulser in charge. Interment was made in Prairie Rose Cemetery. Pall bearers were; Glen Brown, Carl Peregrine, Earnest Brown, Charlie Woods, Merle Brown, and Floyd Brown, all nephews of the deceased.
