Ross King, next to the youngest son of Jacob G. and Isadora McGutcheon King was born on a farm near Hawleyville, Page County, Iowa, May 15,1890 and passed away at the Municipal Hospital in Clarinda, Iowa, May 26, 1975 at the age of 85 years and 11 days.
He was married to Mary Caroline Kendrick at Clarinda, Iowa, October 26, 1910. To this union six sons and one daughter was born.
Mr. King was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline, May 9, 1962; an infant son who died at birth, and a son, Delmar, who died June 27, 1970 at Longmont, Colorado. He was also preceded in death by his great-grandchildren, Melody Jean Ray in December 1971, Eric Eugene Ray of Lenox, and twin girls, Cynthia Irene and Jennifer Marlene King of Clarinda, August 19, 1974, his mother and father, brothers, Frank C. King of Bedford, Charles J. King of Red Oak, William L. King of Nampa, Idaho; Alva King of Hawleyville, Jacob G. King who died when he was 13 years old, a half brother, John Harrison of Johnstown, Colorado, Myrtle King who died when she was two years old and Ellazan King Ridnour of New Market.
Survivors include his sons, Wilbert King of Corning, Cliff of Villisca, Cleave of Loveland, Colorado, and Delbert of Nodaway, one daughter, Mrs. Roland (Wilma) Kester of Prescott; five daughters-in-law and one son-in-law; a sister, Mrs. Earl (Dora) Beck of Yakima, Washington; sister-in-law, Maggie King of Nampa, Idaho; thirteen grandchildren, Mary Kester Riley of Hennington, Nebraska, Norma Kester Marrow of Bellevue, Nebraska, Dennis King of Aurora, Colorado, Darwin King of Golden, Colorado, Gary, Terry, and Cheryl King of Villisca. Carl King of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Judy Ray of Lenox, Rickey King of Clarinda, Mickey, Tommy, and Michelle King of Nodaway, 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ross spent his entire life on farms in Taylor and Adams Counties, the last 33 years on his farm near Iveyville, except for about 18 months which was spent in the Delbert King home after a hospital stay in 1966. Being in ill health the past several years, he was looked after by his son Delbert and wife Kathy.
Funeral services were held at the Roland Funeral Home in Clarinda, Iowa, March 28 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Darold Bryley officiating. Burial was in the Guss Cemetery.
Music was provided by Irma Fuller and Mattie West. Pallbearers were Leslie, Jack, son, Paul Land, Paul Michell, Joe Rubin, Gary Mitchell, and Dean Kester.
