The community was deeply saddened by the death of one of our pioneer citizens, Thomas Oleson, who passed away Friday, October 20, following an illness of only one week. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Fairview Church at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Lair of Des Moines, student pastor of the Fairview Church. Interment was made in Prairie Rose Cemetery.
Thomas Oleson, son of Thomas and Esther Oleson, was born September 10, 1853 in Wisconsin, where his parents had settled after coming to this country from Norway. He was married to Miss Alice Lawrence, April 18, 1884, and they came to Iowa, settling in Poweshick County, and later coming to Adams County, where they have since resided. Mr. Oleson is survived by his devoted widow and four children, three daughters and one son. The daughters are Mrs. John Groff of Nodaway, Mrs. Len Lane of Prescott, and Mrs. Albert Beck of Sharpsburg. The son, Ernest Oleson, lives in Sheridan, Wyoming. He is also survived by other relatives and a host of friends who have respected him for his many sterling qualities, which have made him a citizen of the finest type, a father whose memory will be revered and a neighbor of the friendly type. He was 90 years, 1 month, and 16 days old.
He was baptized into the church in his infancy and has always held a firm belief in the principles of the Christian teachings, and was always ready to support any good movement. The whole communty extends sympathy to the sorrowing family in the loss of this good man.
