Orville Eugene Bunting, Motor Machinist, 1st Class, son of Orville C. Bunting, was born December 23, 1923 and died at the Navy Hospital in San Francisco, California, November 13, 1947, at the age of 23 years, 10 months, and 12 days. His death was the result of an automobile accident.
Orville lived in and around Corning all his life and attended the Corning Schools. On February 3, 1942, he enlisted in the navy and during the entire war was on the American Submarine, USS Chopper. since the war he has been stationed at San Diego.
His mother, Cora Myers Bunting, preceded him in death December 26, 1925. His father, who has been working in Alaska for the last five years received the word of his death and came home by plane.
He leaves to mourn their loss, his beloved father, uncles and aunts, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Myers, Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Bunting, Mr. and Mrs. Walker Cooper, Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Bradley, all of Corning, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Richards of Bridgewater, Iowa, Ernie Bunting of Great Falls, Montana; and Mr. and Mrs. Otto Nickoch of Helena, Montana.
Orville will be remembered as one of the fine boys of our county and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 23, at 2 p.m. in the Methodist Church in Corning, conducted by Rev. V. A. Bloomquist. Music was by Mrs. Russell Roland, accompanied by Mrs. Lyle Posten. Pall Bearers were Carl Devereaux, Clifford Bradley, Morris McPherrin, Eugene Reed, Ernie Hayward, and Charles Bixler. Interment was made in Prairie Rose Cemetery.
Those from a distance who came to attend the funeral were his father, Orville Bunting who is employed in Alaska; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bassett of Kansas City; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Lee of Shannon City; Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Wilson of Red Oak, Norris Bunting of Lenox, and T. K. Wheeler, Jr. of Villisca.
