Funeral services for Lola Johnson, age 97, formerly of Corning, who died Wednesday, November 4, 2009, in Longmont, Colorado, were held Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Roland-Ritchie Funeral Home in Corning. Visitation was held Friday from 3 to 7 with the family greeting friends from 5 to 7. Interment was held in the Prairie Rose Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to Hospice in Lola’s name. Arrangements were entrusted to Roland-Ritchie Funeral Home of Corning.
Lola Bernice Johnson was born January 14, 1912, in Brooks, Iowa the third daughter of four girls born to Arthur Fudge and Blanche (West) Fudge. She grew up attending school in the Brooks area, graduating from high school with the Class of 1931. This was a great accomplishment for women in the early 1900’s! In 1934, she attended a Born Dance and met a tall, dark, handsome gentleman that played the mouth harp named Francis Ervin Johnson. The couple were united in marriage on September 27, 1935, in Brooks, Iowa. Together they farmed in Adams and Taylor Counties, eventually purchasing their own farm. Lola became known and loved for her crafty talents doing ceramics and other crafts. They also enjoyed playing cards and line dancing. Francis and Lola also became known as the ‘major source of eggs’ in the Adams county area. They were blessed to have two children, a son Glen and a daughter Carmeleta Jo. Lola had been a long-time member of the Fairview Church.
Lola and Francis loved to go camping with the Corning Camping Club, known as the Wondering Raiders of Corning. They also attended craft shows throughout the United States, making many wonderful friends along the way. They purchased a camping lot, 88 Shades in an Arizona campground. Together they spent many winters in Arizona. Lola even continued to winter there after Francis died in 1984. In 2002, she sold the camping lot and moved to Longmont, Colorado to live with her daughter Carmeleta.
Left to cherish Lola’s memory are her two children, Glen Johnson and wife Hazel of Montrose, South Dakota; and Carmeleta Thompson of Longmont, Colorado; a sister Neva Telford and husband Dean of St. Louis, Missouri; seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, along with many other family members and friends.
Preceding Lola in death are her parents Arthur and Blanche Fudge; her husband Francis; two sisters, Opal Barrow and Fern White and a great-grandson, Peyton John Francis.

Although Lola will be greatly missed,
her love and inspiration will live on through her family.
