Dwight l. Kirkpatrick, was found dead at the farm home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Jay, west of Creston, Tuesday, October 7,1958, when they returned home that afternoon. He had apparently suffered another heart attack.
Dwight L. Kirkpatrick was born at Prescott [Carl], March 5,1908. He was the son of Alvin G. and Edith Knodle Kirkpatrick. He was married at Corning, September 13,1926 [1927], to Irene Peairs.
Mr. Kirkpatrick lived at Prescott until 1934, at Kellerton from 1934 to 1942; and at Greenfield from 1942 to 1944. He came to Creston in 1944. He joined the Central State Electric Company gas service in Creston on August 18,1946, and remained with the gas service when it was consolidated with the Iowa Electric Light and Power Company. He was operational department foreman for the gas service.
Surviving are his widow; four daughters, Mrs. Colleen Brotherton of Creston, Mrs. Carol Wynn of Burlington, Mrs. Lois Jay of Creston and Diana Kirkpatrick at home; three sons, Boyd of Creston, Jerry in the U.S. Navy and Eddie at home; three brothers, Willis Kirkpatrick of Council Bluffs, Forrest Kirkpatrick of Redland, California and Kenneth Kirkpatrick of Winterset; and a sister, Mrs. Velma Swinford of Redland, California; 10 grandchildren.
Mr. Kirkpatrick was a member of the Carl Methodist Church and of the American Legion post in Creston. He had been in military service from April 1945 to December 1946. Mr. Kirkpatrick had suffered a heart attack in August, 1952, from which he had recovered.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 10th at 2 p.m. at Coen's Funeral Home. Rev. Norman State officiated, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery, where graveside services were conducted by the American Legion. Pallbearers were Junior Antisdel, Lawrence Antisdel, Carl Tugel, Ralph Blazek, Glen Homan and Hubert Homan. Music was by Mrs. Camille Ladd, organist and Russell Henry who sang. Personnel of the Iowa Electic Light and Power Company attended in a body.
