Harrison Henry Means,the son of Melvin Andrew and Lettie May Crist Means, was born March 15, 1893, near Carbon,Adams County, Iowa.He died May 2, 1993, at the Lenox Care Center, Lenox,Iowa at the age of 100.
He was reared on a farm in Washington Township and attended country school in Adams County. Dec. 25, 1912 he married Rosa Hardisty They were the parents of 4 children. They lived in several homes in the Windyville, Mt Etna and Carl areas and owned and operated the Mt. Etna Store for a few years. They also farmed in Worth County, Mo, near Redding, Iowa,and near Irena, Mo. They built an oil station in 1945 which was destroyed by fire. They retired from farming in 1957, moved back to Iowa, and lived in Gravity, Bedford, and Lenox. In 1972 they moved to Corning to spend their retirement years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosa in 1983; son Elmo;3 sisters, Mavis Malone, Blanche Taylor and Pearl Cipra; a brother Basil Means; 2 sons-in-law, Rex Ruch and Cecil Antisdel, and 2 grandsons.
He is survived by his 3 daughters, Violet Antisdel, Opal (Bernard)Tompkins, Dorthea (David) Fisher; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Merle Robison, Doris McVay, Monola Freemeyer and Velma Lee, and a sister-in-law, Ruby Powell.
