William Alvin Hopkins, son of William James and Ellen Thompson Hopkins, was born August 5,1886, in Villisca, Iowa ,and passed away September 22,1966, at the Rosary Hospial in Corning, Iowa, at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 17 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Cora Viola Hopkins, Malvena Hopkins Bullock, Grace Hopkins Pottinger, and one brother, Thomas Cecil Hopkins. He spent most of his llife in Adams County, Iowa, except when, for a short time, his family moved to Colorado. When he was twenty years of age, he received a scholarship to a business college in Quincy, Illinois and he graduated from the college in 1907. He worked for some time for a construction company. Alvin, a year and a half ago, suffered a stroke and entered the Northgate Manor Nursing Home of Corning the day it opened, and has remained there until he became ill Monday, September 19th, and was taken to the hospital Wednesday evening where he passed away at 1:45 Thursday morning. He is survived by his nephew Lyle Pottinger and wife, Charlotte; one great nephew, Joel Pottinger of Elliott; two great nieces, Mrs. Pat O'Brien of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mrs. Richard Morris of Osceola and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Roland Funeral Home in Corning, Iowa, Sunday, September 25,1966, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dan Haggard of Prescott in charge. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Prescott. Pallbearers were Lyman Hoselton, Francis McNuelty, Lee Pearls, L. O. Tilford, Gail Ogburn and Delmar Pelmulder.
