Funeral services for Mrs.Rose Stalder were held on Monday, December 16,1963, at 1:30 p.m. from the Nodaway Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Alvin Sigafus officiating. The organist Mrs. Mabel Dunn accompanied Mrs.Carolyn Harris in the following vocal selections, "Death Is Only A Dream" and "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be". Ushers were Paul Larson,Loren Larson and David Agnew. Flower bearers were Mrs. Veryl Ellis, Mrs. Doris Lane and Mrs. Abbie Vaughn. Casketbearers were Donald Pullen, Jerry Greenfield, Larry Stalder, Ed Greenfield, Gary Lampe and Robert Harris. Interment was in Methodist Grove Cemetery with Wolfe Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Rose A. Stalder, daughter of Ralph and Zora Harris, was born January 26,1897, near Little Rock, Arkansas, and passed away December 13, 1963, in Rosary Hospital at Corning, Iowa, at the age of 66 years, 10 months and 18 days. When she was only one year old, she moved with her family to Villisca. She attended the Villisca Public Schools. On May 28,1916, she was married to William Oscar Stalder; 2 children were born to them, Harold Stalder of Downington, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Art Pullen (Marie) of Nodaway, Iowa. She raised six step-children; Charles of Brooks, Dale of Nodaway, Esther Pullen of Clarida, Ruby Greenfield of Villisca, Ruth Lampe of Winterset and Jim Stalder of Massena. Mrs. Stalder had12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
For 21 years Rose served Nodaway and the surrounding community as Postmistress. She leaves to mourn, her husband, children and one sister, Olive Lillie of Brooks. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Marion, and 3 grandchildren.
At an early age she joined the Villisca Presbyterian Church, and then after moving to Nodaway, she became a member here. For many years, she has worked in the Church School and served as church pianist. Also, she was a member of the Eastern Star and active in many other organizations.
