Francis Turna West, son of Bruce and Sarah Monahan West, was born March 7,1878, in Taylor County, Iowa, and passed away at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa, on December 9.1963, at the age of 85 years,nine months and two days. He was united in marriage on March 26,1911, to Flossie Bosisto. They began their married life on the West homestead in Holt Township, where he was born, and lived for 67 yeaars of his life. Due to ill health, he was forced to retire from farming in 1945, and then moved to an acreage in south Corning where he resided until his death. His home and heart was always open to children of all ages. He was of a kind and loving nature and always ready to help those in need. He joined Fairview Christian Church at an early age: later transferring membership to Iveyville Methodist Church.
He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife, Flossie; his foster daughter, Zelma Korlaski ,of Ralston, Nebraska; two granddaughters and husbands, Carol Ann and Glenn Farris of Omaha, Nebraska and Janet Rae and Tom Dalton of Hayward, California and a great granddaughter, Michele Farris; three sisters, Mrs. Blanche Fudge, Brooks, Iowa; Mrs. Hazel Wetzel, Corning, Iowa; and Mrs. Pearl Cox, Omaha, Nebraska; two aunts, Mrs. Lillie Menaher of Bedford, Iowa and Mrs. Nellie Nevius of New Market, Iowa and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother,two brothers and two sisters. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services were held Thursday, December 12, 1963, at 10:30 p.m. from the Roland Funeral Home in Corning with Rev. Brown Garlock and Howard Wells officiating. Music was by Mrs. Doyle Tranbarger, Mrs. Bert Peckham and Mrs. Joe Cook. Pallbearers were John Keefe,Joe Walter, Ralph Van Pelt, Dean Firkins, Maurice Reichardt and Henry Bycroft. Interment was in the Prairie Rose Cemetery.
