Allen Merle Barker was born in Carbon, Iowa, February 4, 1897, passing from this life in Siberia, November 21, 1919. He leaves his twin brother, Arthur Barker and seven brothers and sisters to mourn his loss. Those who were present at the funeral are Monte Barker, of Corning; William and Leon of Wakonda, South Dakota; Anna of Sioux City and Arthur of Des Moines. Those who were not able to attend the funeral are Harry of Waukonda, South Dakota, Agnes of Sioux City; Esther of Cherokee, and a half brother and sister, Homer and Gladys Barker of Jamestown, North Dakota.
Allen entered the service July 6, 1919 at Aberdeen, South Dakota and from there he was sent to Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, later being sent to Salt Lake City, Utah, and ther he signed up for service in Siberia. He was in Siberia about two months when he took the influenza, which developed into bronchial pneumonia. His folks received a letter from the captain of his company and from the Red Cross nurse in Siberia, who helped care for him during his sickness. They spoke highly of him and said he was a very true soldier and liked by all his comrades.
