Homer Carl Tugel, son of Gustave Herman Tugel and Julia Meyers was born October 6, 1888 in Minier, Tazewell County, Illinois and passed away at the Murphy Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Montgomery County, Iowa on Wednesday, July 23, 1947 at 7 p.m. at the age of 58 years, 9 months, and 17 days. Mr. Tugel had not been in good health for three years. His condition became worse about a month ago, but he was still carrying on his business. He became very ill Wednesday afternoon and was taken to Red Oak to the hospital where he died three and one half hours later.
At the age of 17 he moved with his parents to Mitchell, South Dakota where he remained for 11 years. He married Francis Pearl Bowers on October 6, 1914 near Brooks, Iowa and to them one son was born, Carl.
In the Winter of 1917 the Tugel family moved to a farm near Corning and then to an acreage in the west part of Corning. For the past 14 years they have lived in the city. for 11 years Mr. Tugel was the manager of Farmers Exchange and since then he has been in the coal business.
Mr. Tugel leaves to mourn his loss, his beloved wife, his son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Tugel of Atlantic, and two grandsons, Terry Carl and Jerry Lee, his sister and brother, Alvin Tugel of Farmers, South Dakota, Mrs. John Caliont of Spencer, South Dakota, Lewis Tugel, Mrs. Bert Taylor, and Mrs. Herbert Unzicker, all of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Mrs. Frank Steer of Renner, South Dakota. His parents and one brother Edward Tugel preceded him in death.
Mr. Tugel was confirmed with the Evangelical church when he was a boy.
He will be greatly missed by his many friends in Adams County, Iowa. He was very dependable in business and interested in the welfare of his customers. His home and family meant a great deal to him and he was epically happy when he could have his small grandsons with him.
Funeral services were held at the Boyd Roland Company Funeral Home in Corning on July 28 at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. V. A. Bloomquist. Burial was in the Methodist Grove Cemetery.
