Mary Lucretia Walton Harlow, one of the old and highly respected citizens of Brooks passed away Friday, February 10, 1922, following an illness of several years. For many years she had been afflicted with diabetes, but for sometime, she had been ill with cryaipelas and mastoid, but later developed diabetic coma, from which death resulted in a few hours. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Brooks Methodist Church, the service conducted by pastor Rev f. B. Burst, assisted by Rev. Owen Smith of New Market, a former pastor. A suitable duet was rendered by Rev. Mr. Smith and daughter, Miss Hope, and a solo by Ivan Burr. Interment was made in the Brooks Cemetery. Mary Lucretia Walton was born January 6, 1962 at Troy Mills, Linn County, Iowa and was aged 60 years, 1 month, and 4 days. She removed to this county when a young girl where she grew to womanhood and was married to William Isaac Harlow January 6, 1881. Eight children were born to them, two of whom died in infancy and Joseph Nelson, who passed away a few years ago. Those who survive their mother are Mrs. Myrtle Day Walter of Council Bluffs, William A. Harlow of Junction, Jesse Franklin of Brooks, Thelbert James Harlow of Corning. Mrs. Mable E. Lawrence of Brook. Besides her husband and children, she is also survived by three sisters and brothers of whom are, Sherman Walton, and Lafayette Walton, residing in Corning. In 1896 Mrs. Harlow affiliated with the Brooks Methodist Church and lived a Christian life, was a devoted wife and mother, a kind neighbor and conscientious friend.
